Earlier, Lamborghini and MIT planned to collaborate to produce ultimate new-gen sports cars and consequently got unveiled Terzo Millennio Concept, a future electric supercar. Through the concept, the company addresses to the future of design, energy storage, emotions, propulsion systems and innovative materials. MIT, in collaboration with Lamborghini, is developing a carbon fiber body which will be capable of storing electrical energy.
Lamborghini said, “To support this revolution in energy storage systems, materials and their functions have to change, too.”
“Lamborghini aims to further develop its leadership in the design and production of carbon fiber structures and parts, enhancing its ability to develop features and functions that take lightweight materials to the next level,” continued Lamborghini.
In case the car meets with an accident and dents and cracks are caused, a self healing technology is being developed in order to let the car monitor itself and also, heal by itself. Heat will be used by the car to do the healing.
Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini said, “The new Lamborghini collaboration allows us to be ambitious and think outside the box in designing new materials that answer energy storage challenges for the demands of an electric sport vehicle”.
“We look forward to teaming up with [MIT’s] engineers and work on this exciting project.”
